About KonMari®

The KonMari® Method is a gentle, structured approach to tidying that focuses on choosing what to keep — by identifying the items that truly spark joy — rather than focusing on what to throw away. Together, we work category by category, creating a home that supports the life you want to live now and sets you up for a more organised, joyful future. Many clients find this approach life-changing, as it helps establish lasting systems and habits rather than temporary fixes.

Before we begin, we take time to talk about your ideal life and how you want your home to feel. Every session is tailored to you, your pace, and your circumstances. Every home is different, and each KonMari® journey unfolds in its own unique way.

The Five KonMari® Categories

  • Clothes
  • Books
  • Papers
  • Komono (miscellaneous items)
  • Sentimental items

We work through these categories in order, completing each one fully before moving on to the next, allowing your sense of what sparks joy to deepen as the journey progresses. By putting systems and storage in place along the way, the results are lasting, helping you maintain a joyful, organised home for the future.

Storage, the KonMari® Way

Storage comes after decluttering — never before.

As we work together, I guide you to use what you already have wherever possible. Many clients are surprised by how versatile everyday items can be — a shoebox, basket or simple container can often become the perfect storage solution once items have been thoughtfully edited and categorised.

Using KonMari® principles, we focus on storage that is:

  • Easy to see at a glance
  • Easy to access
  • Easy to put away

This helps your home stay tidy naturally, without effort or overwhelm.

The Five KonMari® Categories

1. Clothes

We begin with clothing, gathering every item you own in one place. I will gently guide you through the spark joy decision-making process, helping you create a wardrobe that feels intentional, organised, and uplifting.

Folding & Storage

The KonMari® folding method allows clothes to be stored upright so you can see everything at a glance. This maximises space and brings a sense of calm to drawers and wardrobes.

You won’t need to buy new storage — we’ll work with what you already have. Clothing is stored thoughtfully, often arranged by height, type, colour, or season — whatever feels most joyful and practical for you.

“When you put your house in order, you put your affairs and your past in order too.”
— Marie Kondo

2. Books

Books include novels, magazines, cookbooks, reference materials, and school or university books.

We’ll gather all books into one place and select those that truly support and inspire you now. I will then help you store and display your books in a way that feels calm and uncluttered — without pressure to fill shelves.

“Keep only those books that speak to your heart.”
— Marie Kondo

3. Papers

Paper clutter can feel overwhelming, but this category is often one of the most freeing.

We’ll gather all papers you’re responsible for and sort them into clear, manageable subcategories.

I will support you in creating a simple filing system that suits your current life, helping to reduce stress around admin and paperwork.

Papers are typically organised into:

Pending

Short-term keep

Long-term keep

This system supports the KonMari® principle of “don’t put it down, put it away.”

4. Komono (Miscellaneous Items)

Komono is the largest category and includes everything from kitchen items and toiletries to toys, hobbies, tools, and seasonal items.

We work through this category one subcategory at a time, gathering items into one place and refining further where needed. I will guide you gently through the spark joy process and help you assign a clear home for every item.

The focus is on ease, visibility, and cleaning — and again, no need to buy new storage solutions.

“Storage experts are really hoarders with tidy drawers.”
— Marie Kondo

Gifts & Shared Items

Unwanted gifts and shared belongings can be emotionally tricky.  offers compassionate support to help you let go of guilt and focus on what truly serves your home and family.

“The true purpose of a present is to be received.”
— Marie Kondo

5. Sentimental Items

The final — and often most emotional — category includes photographs, keepsakes, children’s artwork, cards, and memorabilia.

By this stage, your spark joy intuition is much stronger. I will sensitively guide you through each subcategory at your pace, helping you honour memories without feeling weighed down by belongings.

Together, we’ll explore meaningful ways to store, display, or transform sentimental items — from memory boxes and photo books to keepsakes and memory blankets.

“Memories are stored not in things but in people.”
— Marie Kondo

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the KonMari® Method?

Q: Is it about minimalism?
A: Not at all. The method is about keeping what sparks joy for you, not about emptying your home. Every home, family, and season of life is different, and the approach is always tailored to you.

Q: How long does a KonMari® journey take?
A: Every home is unique, so the number of sessions varies. Sessions last up to 5 hours, and some clients need more than one session per category. The focus is on lasting change, not rushing.
